GSPANN and an anonymised fashion and apparel retailer: Mobile commerce test automation case analysed (case 2)

The evidence grade (this site's label for how a case is sourced: primary with client or press confirmation, secondary when vendor-hosted only.) is secondary: the only source is the vendor's own page; of 1 metric, 0 are verifiable yes, 0 partial and 1 no. [ev-0993]

Problem as stated

Each new build of the brand's mobile app had to be checked in and tested by hand on every device in its support policy. Each build was also released to several environments at once, which delayed releases. Anyone with code repository access could see sensitive data such as keys. The brand wanted build check-in to trigger automated certification on all supported devices. [ev-0993]

it ran into a significant bottleneck that delayed new releases (quoted from the source)

What the case does not say

  • Measurement method.
  • Duration over which the metric held.
  • Team size on both sides.
  • Cost.
  • What was out of scope.
  • Whether the client is still a client.
  • Date of the work.

Reading notes for a buyer

This case speaks to the scenario “First outsourced QA team for a mid-size retailer” and feeds dimension D4 (Test automation evidence) of the methodology. A question to put to GSPANN:

Is this the same engagement as your mobile automation case for this brand, and on how many devices does each build certify? [ev-0993]
